France’s CNRS has secured 362 ERC grants in Horizon Europe so far, leading the top ranking by a huge margin

The European Research Council (ERC) is commonly described as Europe’s crown jewel programme for fundamental research projects, and for some organisations it has been a huge source of funding. Here’s a list of the top 15 ERC beneficiaries in Horizon Europe so far.
At the top sits the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), with a total of €565 million in funding across 362 grants. Its researchers have done extremely well across all three of the ERC’s grants for single investigators, securing 122 Starting grants for early-career researchers, 76 Consolidator grants for mid-career researchers, and 50 Advanced grants for the most established scientists.
