An agreement between the Alma Mater Studiorum and the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) has been signed recently, aiming to establish a joint research laboratory with double headquarters, one in Bologna, and another one in Porto Alegre, Brasil.

The laboratory will be a part  of the geological marine laboratories of the UNIBO’s Department of Biological, Geological, and Environmental Sciences and the laboratory of the UFRGS’s Institute of Geoscience.

The project is a significant opportunity since it facilitates the access to a unique area for marine geology and environment and encourages scientific collaboration and exchange of knowledge and technology.

The new laboratory  represents a strategic initiative to strengthen international cooperation. Its research topics are included within the wider framework of the two countries’ strategic agendas, as well as the Italian – Brasilian bilateral cooperation activities.

The agreement is consistent with the EU Blue Growth strategy, which supports sustainable development in the maritime sectors.
