London, UK, 11 August 2005
An Imperial College London spin-out, Thiakis Ltd, said it received a royalty payment from Nastech Pharmaceutical Co. as Phase II clinical trials began on a Thiakis-based obesity treatment. The payment was triggered under a September 2004 licensing agreement that Thiakis granted US-based Nastech; the amount of the payment was not disclosed. Thiakis was founded in 2004 on four patent families from research by Imperial Prof. Steve Bloom and colleagues into a hormone, PPY 3-36, that is part of the normal process of appetite regulation.
