The advent of cloud computing, business Web services and related ‘distributed’ ICT environments creates a new opportunity for business creation and jobs in Europe. This Science|Business Policy Bridge meeting focuses on how the EU could shape the way these evolve so as to maximize economic benefit.

Among the topics for discussion:

  • How far are cloud and Web services already developed in Europe, and in what areas?
  • What new services or products could come from Europe, that would make a competitive difference?
  • How can more spin-outs, start-ups and other SMEs benefit from the opportunities, while at the same time fueling growth for existing ICT leaders?
  • What are the barriers to growth in this field?
  • How will privacy, security and other social concerns play out in Europe?

The three-hour discussion among experts and leaders in academia, industry and EU policy will produce a check-list of future steps needed to accelerate jobs growth in this field.
